Why the URL names your institute
Because the institute is in the URL, the server knows who is connecting before anyone signs in. That gives you:- Your own sign-in page. The approval page opens on your institute’s admin portal, at your portal’s address and with your brand, using the session people already have.
- No institute picker. People who belong to several institutes are not asked to choose.
- Only your members can approve. Someone signed in to a different institute is told to sign in to yours first.
- Tokens that stay put. A token issued through your URL works only with your URL.
The shared URL without an institute
The server also answers on a shorter, shared URL:More than one institute
One connection works with one institute. If you work for several institutes:- Copy the server URL from each institute’s Settings → MCP Server.
- Add each one to your AI app as a separate server, with a name that tells them apart, for example
north-campusandsouth-campus. - Sign in to each one with your account for that institute.
Sharing the URL
The URL is not a secret. Having it does not give access: a person must still sign in, belong to your institute, and hold an allowed role. You can paste it in a team chat or an onboarding document. The name you type when you add the server is the one your team sees in most apps. A few apps also show the name the server reports for itself. That is a technical label, and it does not change which institute you are connected to.
